Learn about HTML to EXE Converter file requirements, app downloads, startup issues and everyday use.

Files and creation

Check file requirements, configure your app and download the result.

What files does WebEXE support?

WebEXE supports a single HTML file, a complete static web project or HTML entered directly. A project folder must contain index.html in its root directory.

What are the file size and count limits?

A single HTML file and a project’s index.html must each be no larger than 5 MB. A complete project can contain up to 1000 files totaling no more than 20 MB. Include all images, styles and other supporting files used by your pages.

How do I set the app title and window size?

Enter the title, window width and height in App settings on the left. If you leave the title blank, it is read automatically from the uploaded page.

Which operating systems can run the app?

The generated EXE is for 64-bit Windows computers. macOS and Linux apps are not currently available.

How do I download and use the app?

Click Download ZIP in the results, then extract it to get the EXE app and readme.txt instructions. Open the EXE on a Windows computer to use it.

Startup and security

Troubleshoot startup issues and learn about runtime installation and security messages.

What should I check if the EXE will not open?
  1. Fully extract the downloaded ZIP to a local folder, then open the EXE inside it.
  2. Confirm that the computer runs 64-bit Windows and check for any dialogs waiting for your response.
  3. If WebView2 is reported missing, follow the instructions below to install it, then reopen the app.
  4. If the app still will not start, save the full message or a screenshot and contact the app creator for help.
How do I install WebView2 if it is missing?

If the app asks for Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, visit Microsoft’s official WebView2 download page and install it as follows:

  1. If the computer has internet access, choose Evergreen Bootstrapper, download and run the installer, and follow the prompts.
  2. For offline installation on a typical Intel/AMD 64-bit Windows computer, choose the x64 Evergreen Standalone Installer. Download it on an internet-connected computer, then copy it to the target computer and install it. For other devices, follow Microsoft’s guidance to choose the right version.
  3. After installation, close and reopen the EXE. If administrator permission is required during installation, contact the computer administrator.
Do I need WebView2 if Edge is already installed?

Edge and the WebView2 Runtime are installed separately. If the app opens normally, no action is needed. If startup reports that WebView2 is missing, install it separately using the steps above and follow the installer’s instructions.

What if Windows SmartScreen says “Windows protected your PC”?

This message may appear for newly created or less frequently downloaded apps. First confirm that the file is your own creation or comes from a trusted app creator, and scan it with Windows Security.

  1. Click More info in the dialog and verify the app name shown.
  2. If you have confirmed the file is trustworthy and decide to continue, you can click Run anyway to start the app if that option is available.
  3. If Run anyway is unavailable or the app is restricted by organization policies or Smart App Control, contact the computer administrator or app creator for help.
What if security software detects a virus or malware?

Stop running the file, review the security software’s detection history and send the exact message and file source to the app creator for investigation. If the creator suspects a false positive, they can request a review through the security vendor’s official channels. Decide whether to use the file only after the issue is clarified.

Usage and updates

Troubleshoot page display issues and learn about offline use, recreating apps and full-screen mode.

What if the page is blank or images and styles are missing?

First open the project’s index.html in a browser and confirm it displays correctly. Upload the complete project folder, preserve file names and directory structure, and check that images, styles and other files are included. Online images, fonts and other online content also need a working internet connection. After fixing the files, recreate and download the app.

Can the app be used offline?

If all required page files are included in the uploaded project and its features do not need internet access, the app can run offline once the runtime is ready. Sign-in, online content and lookups, and online images and fonts not included in the project still require an internet connection.

Will a downloaded EXE update automatically when my page changes?

After changing your web files, create the app again. Click Create again, select the updated files or project folder, download the new ZIP when ready and provide its new EXE to users. Previously downloaded EXEs are not replaced automatically.

How do I use full-screen mode?

Press F11 after opening the app to enter full-screen mode. Press F11 again to return to windowed mode. Some laptops require Fn + F11.
